A New Evangelization in the life of the family and the church

The Church is at all times guiding the truth and credibility of the Gospel. Reflecting on the role of the New Evangelization in the family, it is worth stopping at the concept and meaning of the family. The family is holy, as St. John Paul II is a place where life is properly protected and can develop. The family is a community of people who aspires to eternal life. In Christian terms, the family is a community of parents and children built on the relationship of man and woman. As the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church of Lumen Gentium emphasizes, the family is referred to as the home church. This is where the functions of the Church are fulfilled: priesthood, royal and prophetic.

Books about John Paul II aimed at the young reader were published even during the Pope's lifetime. However, their number increased rapidly after his canonization in 2014. Authors and publishers of such books presentthe image of Karol Wojtyła as a model of life and humanity based on love, goodness, honesty, and tolerance. This model is close to the Church's teachings and the educational standard that was used across many centuries. A real-life example has a much better chance to appeal to the child, as it shows that it is actually possible to follow said model. Ekumeniczny program św. Jana Pawła II cechuje nie tylko wymiar horyzontalny, urzeczywistniający się w osobistych spotkaniach, w wymianie myśli i duchowych darów. Obejmuje także wymiar wertykalny, polegający „na wspólnym i wzajemnym uznaniu naszej kondycji jako ludzi, którzy zgrzeszyli”, co – według Jana Pawła II – otwiera „wewnętrzną przestrzeń, w której Chrystus jako źródło jedności Kościoła może skutecznie działać mocą swego Ducha – Parakleta” (UUS, nr 35). Nadając ekumenizmowi priorytetowy charakter w programie swojego posługiwania, Jan Paweł II zwraca szczególną uwagę na dwa elementy, które wzajemnie się warunkują. Są to: „pamięć i jej oczyszczanie oraz pojednanie”.

The aim of the article is the critical presentation of the vision of the dialogue between Christianity and Islam in the pontifiates of John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis. The pontifiate of John Paul II constitutes a quantum leap forward as far as both the practice of dialogue of the Catholic Church with Islam and systematic reflction on its signifiance and theological fundamentals are concerned.
